This video has been floating around the internet for a while now and getting a lot of traction. It’s a pretty amazing timelapse showing UK illustrator Patrick Vale creating a detailed pen drawing of the lower part of Manhattan as you see from the top of the Empire State Building. It’s an impressive drawing and it’s funny to see how much coffee he consumed while doing it… always a necessity!
But that film got us thinking, even though he’s been a hit on the net with over 500,000 views, we never once saw any of his other work. So we thought we’d bring you some of it! So here’s Patrick Vale, in full! Based in London and focusing on architectural drawing, both artistic and commercial, Vale has a fluid style and a real ease with the pen/ brush which shows what must be his tireless commitment to his craft. Although not particularly contemporary in style, you have to admit that his work has a strong aesthetic and an interest which is only helped along by the unusual high angle his cityscapes are usually drawn from.
Nice stuff Patrick, well worth all the attention. Check out more of Patricks work here.
